Ice Cream and $: The Death of Targeted Marketing

The guy who runs Denali, an ice cream flavoring company and the inventors of Moose Tracks ice cream, decided to start a financial advice website, Free Money Finance, so he could own a portal and get free on-line marketing for his ice cream company.
Huh?
Makes no sense, right? Well he now gets 100,000 or so visitors a month to FreeMoneyFinance and not only advertises his ice cream, but other brands and serves up Ads by Google as well. He’s even pushing a budgeting program for a fee (he maintains he likes it a whole lot.)
The ads on his site are tiny blog ad creatives and can’t be doing that much for his ice cream business. He gives away his financial site revenue to charity. What gives here?
